Grappa is an Italian grape-based pomace brandy made from the grape skins and stems discarded during winemaking. It contains 35-60% alcohol by volume and is recognised as a distinct alcoholic beverage since 2008 by the European Union. After meals, it is traditionally served neat in shot glasses, while connoisseurs prefer taller stemmed stemmed-nosing glasses. There are various types of grappa; Bianca/Giovane, Affinata in Legno, Vecchia/Invecchiata, and Riserva/Stravecchia, each aged for different periods of time. 

Riedel's Sommeliers was the world's first wine-friendly glass collection and a radical innovation by Claus J. Riedel (9th generation). Adhering to the Bauhaus design principle of form follows function, Riedel's research showed that certain wines tasted better from specific glass shapes.
